KAMIYO Episode 22: Izanagi and Izanami — Descent to Onogoro Island and the Sacred Vow

Prologue: Departure from Takamagahara, Reaching Gravity

From the tip of the rainbow bridge connecting heaven and earth, the "Amenoukihashi" (Heavenly Floating Bridge), the two gods slowly descended toward the crystal of their love, "Onogoro Island" (The Self-Congealing Island).

It was a departure from Takamagahara (The High Plain of Heaven), a world of absolute concepts devoid of gravity and death.

This meant throwing themselves into the "Material World," a place accompanied by pain and limitations.

As they drew closer to the ground, Izanagi began to feel a heavy "Weight" pressing upon his own body. The wind struck his cheeks, and the scent of the tide tickled his nose.

It was proof that they had completely transformed from conceptual deities into flesh-and-blood "Entities."

Crunch...

Izanagi's sturdy greaves stepped onto the earth of Onogoro Island.

It was a rugged, desolate land where mud and salt mingled.

However, to him, it was the "First Territory" to live in with his beloved, more valuable than any golden palace.

He planted his feet firmly on the ground and reached his hand out toward the floating bridge overhead.

"Come, Izanami. There is nothing to fear. Take my hand."

Chapter 1: Footprints of Love, The Budding Paradise

Led by Izanagi's strong yet gentle hand, Izanami gracefully alighted upon the ground.

It was the moment her bare feet touched the earth of salt and mud.

Whoosh...!

From beneath her feet, a dazzling light of life spread outward like ripples.

The desolate salt crystals turned into rich black soil, and the seeds of life left behind by Umashiashikabihikoji awakened in response to her maternal presence, sprouting all at once.

In the blink of an eye, a green carpet spread, and beautiful nameless flowers bloomed in profusion as if to welcome the two gods.

The cold wind transformed into a pleasant, spring-like breeze.

Izanami gently stroked a small red flower that had bloomed at her feet and smiled lovingly.

"Our island... it is so beautiful and warm."

The moment he saw that smile, a fierce affection exploded deep within Izanagi's chest.

To protect her smile, he would burn himself to ashes to build this world. He firmly swore it to himself.

"Ah, your beauty has turned this island into a paradise."

Izanagi drew Izanami's shoulder close as she stood surrounded by flowers, and declared powerfully.

"On this island, we shall become true husband and wife, and carry out further creation. This is the stronghold of our love."

Onogoro Island had become the new home of the Creator couple.

On this sacred island, the two gods would forge a deeper bond and prepare to turn the sea of chaos into a beautiful world.

Chapter 2: The Heavenly Pillar and the Eight-Fathom Palace

"First, we need an 'Axis' to serve as our center."

When Izanagi thrust the Amenonuboko (Heavenly Jeweled Spear) into the ground, the earth rumbled mightily.

Rumble, rumble, rumble...!

From the center of the island, a massive, thick pillar began to rise with tremendous force, towering high enough to pierce the sky.

It was the "Ame-no-Mihashira" (The Heavenly Pillar), shining with a pale, divine light, penetrating from deep underground to the heights of the heavens.

"With this Heavenly Pillar at the center, let our love and creation expand."

Standing before the colossal pillar that required them to look straight up, Izanagi spoke powerfully.

This pillar was the antenna connecting the will of Heaven (the gods) and the will of Earth (the material world), and it would become the base point for the blueprint of the "Birth of the Land" they were about to undertake.

Izanami also looked up at the shining pillar, clasping her hands before her chest as if in prayer.

"As a proof of our eternal love, this pillar shall continue to stand. So that no matter where we are, we can always return here."

Then, as if to envelop the Heavenly Pillar, the two gods erected a vast and beautiful palace, the "Yahiro-dono" (The Eight-Fathom Palace).

It was not the carpentry of mortals. Simply by holding out their hands and resonating their wills, a magnificent palace adorned with white wood and gold assembled itself.

It was not merely a building; it was a sacred tower and a nest of love symbolizing Izanagi and Izanami's love and their will for creation.

Chapter 3: Awakening to Perfect Union Deep inside the Yahiro-dono

For the first time, the two gods were in a silence completely alone, away from any prying eyes.

They gazed at each other's forms.

Izanagi's ruggedly built, muscular body.

Izanami's soft, smooth body, full of beautiful curves.

"Izanami. My body is completely formed in every part, but there is one place that is formed to excess."

"Lord Izanagi. My body is also completely formed in every part, but there is one place that is formed insufficiently."

It was a sacred realization that they were not merely a "Pair," but were designed both physically and spiritually as a "Puzzle meant to fit together."

"Then," Izanagi took Izanami's hand. His eyes burned with deep affection and passion.

"With my excess part, I shall plug and fill your insufficient part. When the two are perfectly bound as one, a new 'Land' should be born there for the first time."

Izanami's white cheeks dyed a red deeper than her vermilion robes.

As if surrendering everything, she nodded quietly and deeply.

"Yes... Let us become one, and give birth to the crystal of our love."

Chapter 4: The Sacred Marriage Ritual

The two gods exited the Yahiro-dono and stood before the towering Heavenly Pillar.

What they were about to perform was a solemn and sacred marriage ritual, carving the fact that "They are husband and wife" into the laws of the universe.

"I shall walk around this pillar from the left. You shall walk from the right. And where we meet, let us make our vows."

The two gods began to walk along the pillar.

Izanagi's powerful footsteps and the elegant rustling of Izanami's robes echoed across Onogoro Island.

Passing behind the pillar, making a half-circle, and meeting again at the front.

When their gazes intersected, the surrounding air glowed with a golden light. The entire universe was holding its breath, watching over and blessing this ritual.

Izanagi powerfully embraced Izanami's shoulders and declared with a voice that echoed throughout the world.

"You, Izanami, become my beloved wife for eternity!"

That voice contained his absolute resolve as a male god to protect her completely and to shoulder the world together.

Tears of joy spilled from Izanami's eyes.

She buried her face in Izanagi's chest and responded with all the love in her heart and soul.

"You, Izanagi, please become my beloved husband for eternity!"

The two souls melted completely into one.

The light emitted from the Heavenly Pillar enveloped Onogoro Island and spread to the very ends of the universe.

It was the most beautiful and powerful wedding in the history of mythology.

Through this sacred vow, the two gods became true husband and wife, and their previously separate creative powers were "Multiplied," sublimating into an even more mighty and inexhaustible energy.

Chapter 5: Resolve for New Creation, To the Infinite Sea

Having finished the ritual, the two gods stood on the cliffs of Onogoro Island, looking out over the endless Sea of Chaos spreading below.

With their arms around each other's waists, leaning close together, their backs displayed the unshakable relief and trust unique to those who have become a married couple.

However, their eyes burned hot not for a satisfying rest, but for the next battle.

The vast Sea of Chaos remained almost entirely untouched.

"My love..."

Izanami spoke with a dignified voice, her hair fluttering in the wind.

"This is only the beginning. Onogoro Island is our bedchamber. The world must be much wider. Let us give birth to many more beautiful islands."

Her maternity could no longer be contained by directing it toward just one male god. It had swollen to an immense scale, desiring to give birth to the entire world itself.

Looking at her dependable profile, Izanagi smiled proudly.

"Yes, exactly. Let us fill this entire Sea of Chaos with the proofs of our love. And let us give birth to countless gods, creating a fertile world filled with our love!"

Thus, Izanagi and Izanami created the first island, Onogoro Island, erected the Heavenly Pillar, and performed their sacred marriage.

Before the two gods, now a true married couple, spread infinite possibilities of creation.

From a single island, to the birth of the massive landmass known as the Japanese Archipelago.

And to the creation of the Yaoyorozu no Kami (Eight Million Gods) who preside over all of nature.

The most spectacular and passionate legends in Japanese mythology—the "Birth of the Land" (Kuniumi) and the "Birth of the Gods" (Kamiumi)—were now truly about to begin.
