Episode 48: The Bitter Decision — The Sentence of Banishment and the Rupture Between Father and Son

[Prologue] The Frozen Thunderclap
"—I banish you from this Oyashima."
The sentence of Kanyarai (Divine Expulsion) was unleashed from the mouth of the supreme god, Izanagi.
The moment those words echoed into the void, the rainstorm that had been raging like a madman subsided as if it were a lie, and the furious, surging waves froze completely like glass.
A "decision" by the creator of the world is not mere words.
It is an absolute binding curse that rewrites the very providence of the world.
Takehaya Susanoo-no-Mikoto, who had been on all fours covered in mud, was frozen like a statue, massive tears continuously spilling from his wide-open eyes.
In a silence where time seemed to have stopped, only the heavy, rough breathing emanating from Susanoo's giant body echoed with eerie clarity.
He could not immediately comprehend what had just happened to him, or what his father had declared.
No, it was his soul desperately rejecting that excessively cruel reality.
The mud of the earth dried, the wind died, and the sea fell silent.
From this beautiful world that his father and mother had created in their love, a single god named Susanoo was now about to be completely severed as a "foreign entity."
[Chapter 1] The Heartbreak of the Creator God
Izanagi's eyes as he looked down at Susanoo were as freezing cold as an absolute-zero blizzard.
However, it was not as if the depths of his chest did not ache at all.
He, too, was a parent.
The Three Noble Children, born from the water that washed his own face, were the culmination of his heart and soul, the masterpieces upon which he had placed his highest hopes.
(Why, Susanoo? Why, of all things, did you blurt out that you wanted to go to 'that place'?)
In Izanagi's hand, the Heavenly Jeweled Spear (Ame-no-Nuboko) trembled faintly.
The Underworld, Yomi.
The absolute darkness where his wife, Izanami, squirmed, harboring her rotting flesh and bottomless malice.
If Susanoo, possessing the power of a god while still alive, were to set foot in that place, it was clearer than day that the horrifying curse of death—the terrifying ruin of 'strangling a thousand humans to death in a single day'—would break its seal and come avalanching into this world of light.
(I must protect the world. I cannot allow this foolish son to repeat the same mistake I once made—trapped by the madness called love, bringing the world to the brink of destruction!)
His overwhelming sense of responsibility as a god crushed his affection as a father.
To let the world live, he had to ruthlessly cut away his own rotting flesh (his son).
That was the heart-wrenching, "bitter decision" that one standing as an absolute ruler had to bear.
[Chapter 2] The Stripped Providence of the Ocean
"Susanoo. I hereby permanently strip you of the right to govern the vast ocean that I bestowed upon you."
Izanagi thrust the butt of the Heavenly Jeweled Spear heavily into the earth.
In that instant, an anomaly struck Susanoo's body.
"GAAAAAAHHH!!"
Susanoo clawed at his own chest, writhing on the muddy beach.
The "power to resonate with the sea" that had dwelled within him was torn out by its roots, accompanied by an agonizing pain akin to having his fingernails ripped off.
Until then, if he cried, the sea grew rough; if he raged, storms arose.
Susanoo's very existence was the sea itself.
But now, no matter how much he reached out and called to the sea, the waves did not so much as twitch.
The cold, muddy seawater swiftly receded from him, much like citizens distancing themselves from a vicious criminal.
The wind changed direction before him, the earth refused to support him, and the sand beneath his feet turned into mere cold pebbles that only stole his body heat.
The world had turned its back on him.
All of nature silently and ruthlessly thrust him away, declaring, "You are no longer our king."
[Chapter 3] The Despairing Disconnect in Understanding
"Why... why, Father?!"
Stripped of all the strength in his body, crawling in the muddy water, Susanoo screamed with a blood-laced voice.
"I merely wished to see Mother... the only Mother who would love me! Is that such a grave sin that it must be punished to this extent?!"
Susanoo absolutely could not comprehend the "logic" of why his father had banished him to protect the world.
All he possessed was an innocent, pure starvation for affection.
Why did his primal desire "to be loved"—something anyone should have—have to be so entirely denied by the world, robbing him of his place to belong?
To his overly pure son's question, Izanagi answered nothing.
He realized that even if he were to speak of the terrors of the world of the dead, it would absolutely never reach this son who was consumed by madness.
Izanagi's silence, possessing no words to speak, pierced Susanoo like a blade of "complete rejection, devoid of any compassion."
(Ah... I see. Father never loved me from the very beginning.)
Massive tears streamed down from Susanoo's eyes.
(Someone like me, born from defilement, was an unnecessary existence in this beautiful world of light from the start!)
[Chapter 4] When Love Inverts into Murderous Intent
"...I understand."
Susanoo, whose face had been buried in the muddy water, slowly stood up.
The fierce lamentation and clinging, childish dependence from moments before had completely vanished from his voice.
What dwelled there instead was an eerie quietness that sent shivers down the spine.
In Susanoo's eyes, now completely drained of tears, there was no longer a single speck of light.
His overly pure thirst for love, after passing through the despair of absolute rejection, had completely inverted into a "pitch-black hatred" toward the world itself.
"A world that does not love me no longer holds even a shred of value. If you are to strip the sea from me and banish me from the world of light... then, as you wish, I shall vanish from this country for eternity."
Susanoo's words were laced with a cold poison resembling a curse.
He turned his back on his great father, who was looking down at him.
It was the moment of the "complete rupture between father and son," a moment in the history of the Age of the Gods that would permanently bifurcate the fate of heaven and earth.
"Go, Susanoo. And never show your defiled figure before me again."
Izanagi's final words dissolved emptily into the howling, cold sea breeze.
[Chapter 5] The Whereabouts of the Solitary God
Enveloped once again in a dazzling light, Izanagi ascended with heavy steps toward the rift in the sky and disappeared.
The moment the crack in the sky closed, the light was lost, and the beach was once again covered by heavy, cold, leaden dark clouds.
In the midst of the vast world, Susanoo was left entirely alone on the muddy beach.
Losing his power to rule the sea, abandoned by his father, possessing no place to return to and no people to cherish—complete isolation.
Though a god, he had been thrust down to become the most solitary existence in this world.
"I will go to Ne-no-Katasu-Kuni... But before that."
Covered in mud, Susanoo slowly looked up at the heavens.
Beyond his gaze, far past the thick dark clouds, lay a dazzlingly radiant country of light—the heavenly realm ruled by his sister Amaterasu Omikami, "Takamagahara."
(My noble Sister, who was loved and granted everything. Before I descend into the depths of hell for eternity... won't you grant me the time to bid a final farewell to your foolish younger brother?)
Deep within the chest of the banished fierce god, a muddy flame mixed with sorrow and hatred had begun to silently burn.
His next destination was not the darkness, but the apex of light.
At this time, no one had any way of knowing that Susanoo's final "farewell" would become the curtain-raiser to the greatest tragedy of the Age of the Gods, plunging Takamagahara into an abyss of unprecedented terror and collapse.
