KAMIYO Episode 16: Otonobe-no-Kami — The Wisdom of Femininity
Share
Prologue: The World of Hard Clockwork
Because Otonoji-no-Kami had drawn boundaries and erected gates, the world had become remarkably orderly.
Beasts walked on designated paths, rivers flowed straight as if embanked, and everything functioned with regularity.
There was no waste, no hesitation; efficient "correctness" ruled.
However, that world was somewhat suffocating.
A tension like a taut bowstring dominated the atmosphere.
Silent pressure—"To stop is evil," "To deviate is a sin"—drove all living things forward.
Animals feared resting without purpose, simply moving forward relentlessly.
Even the plants lined up as if measured by a ruler, spreading their leaves in a cramped manner.
Order was complete. But "ease" and "peace" were decisively lacking.
At this rate, the world would eventually become exhausted, and that taut string would snap.
When the sun set and the world was wrapped in pale blue darkness, sharp angular shadows stretched across the ground.
To cover those cold shadows, a soft silver light began to pour down from the night sky.
Chapter 1: Lunar Compassion, The Manifestation of Otonobe
It was a light that enveloped and forgave everything, in contrast to the intense golden light of Otonoji, which was like the sun.
Particles of moonlight danced down quietly, blurring the harsh boundary lines into ambiguity.
From within the light, a single goddess appeared silently.
The Fifth Generation of the Kamiyo-nanayo (The Seven Divine Generations), the goddess paired with Otonoji.
Her name is Otonobe-no-Kami.
She was clad in a beautiful Karaginumo (Tang-style ceremonial robe) woven of silver threads, and on her sleeves, patterns of the moon and clouds shone mysteriously.
Her expression was filled with deep intelligence that sees all, and a motherly gentleness that cherishes the wounded.
She descended before the massive stone gate built by Otonoji.
Then, stepping forward to the male god who stood guard over the world with arms crossed, she smiled elegantly.
"It is a magnificent gate and path, Otonoji. Your will for discipline is painfully conveyed."
Her voice was cool like the night breeze, possessing a resonance that relaxed the tension in the male god's stiff shoulders.
"But, it is a little too stiff... just looking at it makes one tired. I shall add warm wisdom here."
She had appeared to breathe the soul of feminine "Inclusiveness" into the masculine structure.
Chapter 2: The Repose of Healing
"To rest is not a sin."
Otonobe stood before the beasts who continued to walk, exhausted and bound by discipline.
When she gently placed her hand on their heads, their stiff muscles relaxed, and the severity vanished from their eyes.
"You need not try so hard. Rest is also an important step to move forward to tomorrow. Rest your hearts, and listen to your intuition."
The beasts collapsed on the spot as if to sleep, leaking deep sighs of relief.
Beside the "Road" that had existed only for passing through, shade for resting was born.
Inside the "Gate" that had existed only for entering and exiting, a sleeping place to nestle in was born.
She brought "Rest" and "Healing" to the world.
Moving forward is not the only value. Stopping, sleeping, and waking up again.
She taught that this rhythm is what sustains life.
Chapter 3: Intuitive Solution, Beyond Logic
At one time, a conflict arose in the gaps of discipline.
Two beasts fought over a single fruit.
Otonoji appeared and tried to judge with strict law.
"The one who reached the path first has the right. That is order."
The male god's logic was correct. However, the defeated beast was not convinced, and flames of resentment and jealousy burned in its eyes.
Laws can bind actions, but they cannot bind the heart. At this rate, new sparks of conflict would continue to smolder.
At that moment, Otonobe intervened.
Instead of preaching the law, she sat between the two beasts and stayed close to their hearts.
"The answer is not in the rules, but in your hearts."
She affirmed the sadness of the defeated beast and understood the unyielding circumstances of the winner.
"Jealousy and hesitation are emotions that come from living. Do not deny them; accept them as they are."
Her words dissolved the walls of logic.
Not the dualism of "Right or Wrong," but the intuitive wisdom of "How can we both be comfortable?"
The beasts understood each other's pain and chose to share the fruit.
It was a resolution not by coercion of rules, but by consent and love.
"The god showed 'Intuitive Wisdom' beyond logic. She sublimated emotional problems that cannot be seen in black and white through the power of love."
Chapter 4: Perfect Harmony of Yin and Yang
The morning sun rose, and in the sky, the sun and the still-remaining white moon shone side by side.
Otonoji, emitting golden light, and Otonobe, clad in silver light.
The two gods held hands before the gate, now decorated with flowers and greenery.
The gate, which was once like a fortress refusing intrusion, now showed the appearance of a warm "Home" entrance, welcoming all.
Structure (Hardware) and Life (Software) had fused.
Otonoji looked at the goddess lovingly.
"With your warmth dwelling in my order, the world seems to have begun to breathe."
Otonobe also leaned against the male god's arm.
"Because your strong protection exists, gentleness can be nurtured in peace."
The male god's "Leadership" and the goddess's "Inclusiveness."
Logic and Intuition.
Tension and Relaxation.
The two powers harmonized perfectly, and the world obtained an ideal balance.
It was the integration of fatherhood and motherhood, necessary for a society to mature.
Chapter 5: Inheritance to the Next Generation
The two gods overlooked the contented world.
The living things coming and going on the orderly roads were no longer mechanical; they lived their lives with their own will and joy.
The "Place" was set, and the "Home" was made.
Beyond the gaze of the two gods, on the far horizon, the omen of a new light flickered.
It was the sign of gods who deal more with the individual inner self and the physical body, who should come after the environment and society are established.
"This harmony we have built shall become the foundation for the gods who come soon."
"Indeed. The figure of perfect complementation between man and woman... we have shown it."
Through Otonoji and Otonobe, the ideal relationship between masculinity and femininity was demonstrated.
Their bond of respecting and complementing each other leads the story of the Kamiyo-nanayo to its next climax—the gods possessing completed bodies and beauty.
