Evil gods swarming like flies across a blighted earth as Susanoo’s grief collapses the world’s order, while Izanagi’s divine wrath tears through the dark clouds above in the Age of the Gods

Episode 45: The Creeping Evil Gods and the Chaos of the World

[Prologue] The Ominous Frenzy of Buzzing Wings

Bzzzz... Jzzzt, jzzzt...

From the depths of the earth, where the once-lush nature had completely withered and cracked cruelly from the loss of moisture, a harsh, low sound began to well up.

It sounded like the buzzing wings of countless flies swarming rotting meat in midsummer, or like the whispers of the dead continuously spewing curses from the bottom of hell.

Takehaya Susanoo-no-Mikoto's despairing lamentation shook heaven and earth.

The tears of overly pure sorrow he shed did not merely bring about the terrifying physical destruction of "withering the green mountains and drying up the seas and rivers."

Because the fierce god's original "power of governance"—to quell the fury of nature and circulate the world normally—had been completely abandoned, the invisible barrier of order covering Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni (the earthly realm) crumbled with a resounding crash.

When the power of life wanes and the world is veiled in the presence of death (defilement), there are those who emerge from the dark, catching the sweet scent of that decay.

"The evil gods buzzing like summer flies" (*Sabae-nasu-Arashikikami*).

Since Izanagi and Izanami had birthed the lands and established the providence of light and life, these incarnations of negativity had been sealed and suppressed deep within the earth and at the bottom of dark caves. Now, they crawled forth, leaking out from a fatal bug in the world's structure.

[Chapter 1] The Gushing Calamity and the Trampled Lives

"Hiii! Run, run!!"

"The water... the river water is as red as blood!!"

Indescribable screams and chaos erupted everywhere on the surface.

Exploiting the gap left by the collapse of the world's absolute balance caused by Susanoo's wailing, countless evil gods gushed forth like crawling insects, dancing in mad joy as they began their rampage.

They were the very "concept of calamity," lacking a distinct physical body.

In one place, they became an unexplained black fog of plague covering the forest, burning the lungs of fleeing beasts, causing them to cough blood and collapse one after another.

A mother fox, desperately trying to flee with her pup in her mouth, clawed at her throat the moment she touched the fog; inside her mouth, the pup rapidly turned to black ash and crumbled away.

In another place, the evil gods became invisible gusts of wind, uprooting giant trees, shaking the earth violently to cause landslides, and mercilessly burying innocent creatures alive beneath the mud and sand.

Even though it was daytime, the sky was completely shielded from the sun's light by the dark miasma rising from Susanoo, dyed an eerie, dim, reddish-brown color resembling twilight.

The evil gods loved to squirm in the darkness where light could not reach.

Emitting strange noises like buzzing wings at each other, they mocked, cruelly toyed with, and drove the panicked, fleeing lives of the surface to absurd deaths one after another.

The beautiful "Oyashima" (Great Eight Islands) that Izanagi and Izanami had once built while whispering of love—that paradise, once overflowing with vibrant life, had now regressed into a crucible of chaos where disasters chained together and unreasonable death ran rampant everywhere.

[Chapter 2] The Sun's Frustration and the Agitation of Takamagahara

"Susanoo... What have you done?"

Far above, in the majestic shrine of Takamagahara spreading above the sea of clouds.

The beautiful face of Amaterasu Omikami, looking down at the lower world from her throne, was contorted with deep anguish and frustration.

Her white hands gripped the heavily shining curved jewel (magatama) at her chest so tightly that her knuckles turned white.

On the white crystal floor of the shrine, the eight million gods prostrated themselves, huddling together and trembling in terror.

"The defilement of the earth seems to be reaching even Takamagahara...!"

"Amaterasu Omikami, please, please quell that outrage!"

Receiving the gods' distressed voices, Amaterasu intensified her "light" to the absolute limit, desperately sending warm divine energy to purge the miasma on the earth.

However, the stronger the light became, the thicker and blacker the shadow of despair cast by Susanoo grew, clinging to the earth like a thick wall of mud and repelling the light.

"I do not understand... I cannot comprehend his sorrow."

A sorrowful confession escaped Amaterasu's trembling lips.

To be the "perfect sun" governing the heavenly realm, she strictly sealed her personal emotions and loneliness deep within her heart, bearing the responsibility for the world with a feeling akin to vomiting blood.

For her, who also knew no mother and was born from her father's ablutions, Susanoo's behavior—"clinging to the phantom of a mother he had never met and wailing like a baby, even abandoning his divine duties"—seemed nothing more than an incomprehensible madness that deviated far too much from the logic of the gods.

(Why can you not suppress a single emotion? Why do you not realize how many innocent lives your selfish craving for love is ruthlessly killing!)

Anger, and the sense of powerlessness at being unable to save her beloved blood brother.

Even as the strongest sun goddess who illuminated all creation, she could never illuminate the bottomless darkness of "love starvation" gaping in the depths of her brother's heart.

[Chapter 3] The Moon's Silence and Unreachable Resonance

Meanwhile, on the reverse side of the daytime world, in the "Realm of Night" (Yoru no Osukuni) enveloped in absolute silence, Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto stood alone, quietly gazing at the horrific state of the earth reflected in the ripple-less silver water mirror.

"So the buzzing evil gods have crawled out and are ravaging the world..."

On his translucent face draped in silver light, there was no intense frustration or anger like his sister's.

However, deep within his ice-cold eyes, a profound and quiet color of pity dwelled.

Tsukuyomi could understand Susanoo's heart, just a little.

The heavy burden of his sister, forced to be perfect and straining herself to shine brilliantly.

And the fathomless emptiness of the brother who despaired that he possessed "no value whatsoever" in the shadow of that overly dazzling light.

(Susanoo. The power granted to you was simply too strong. You possess enough power to destroy the world, yet you lack the "memories of being loved" to control it. Because it was too strong, you could not endure the depth of the void gaping within you, could you?)

The defilement their father washed away in the Underworld.

Compared to Amaterasu and himself, born from the noble light of the left and right eyes, he understood the muddy inferiority complex of the brother, who alone was born from the "dregs"—the water dripping from the nose.

Yet, even if he could understand that sorrow, there was nothing Tsukuyomi, the God of Night, could do.

If he descended to the earth and tried to forcefully quell the evil gods with the silence of the night, he would clash head-on with the light of Amaterasu, who ruled the day, and the very providence of the world would completely collapse.

The Three Noble Children were destined to be "kings of non-intersecting dimensions," born together yet never allowed to interfere with each other's loneliness.

"Sister is too dazzling, and Brother is too dark... Where did we misbutton our paths?"

As Tsukuyomi's cold fingertips touched the water's surface, the gruesome images of the earth distorted with ripples, and eventually vanished into thin air.

All he could do was pray from the distant bottom of the night that his brother's soul would not break any further.

[Chapter 4] Regression to the Origin and the Omen of Rupture

On the surface, Susanoo's wailing and the frenzy of the evil gods were finally reaching their breaking point.

"AAAAAAHHH!! Motherrrr!! Why did you leave me behind?!"

Covered in mud and his own bloody tears, Susanoo looked up at the heavens and screamed, tearing his throat.

The breath of curses he spewed transformed into a giant, ominous, pitch-black tornado, scraping away the withered mountains and swallowing the swarming evil gods as it spiraled high into the sky.

It was a collapse at a level impossible to repair through nature's self-purification or the prayers of the gods.

The withered earth crumbled, and the dead sea turned into completely muddy water, swallowing the land.

Ashihara-no-Nakatsukuni ceased maintaining the form of life and was regressing toward the original, murky sea before their father and mother stirred it with the Heavenly Jeweled Spear—towards "absolute chaos."

Sister and Brother could only watch and grieve.

There was only one deity left in this world who could stop the rampaging, infantile god of destruction with martial force before he ruined the world.

[Chapter 5] The Father's Anger, The Judgment Descending from Heaven

Rumble, rumble, rumble... CRACK!!!

Suddenly, a terrifying thunderclap that seemed to split the world in two roared, completely blowing away the unpleasant buzzing of the evil gods crawling on the earth, and even Susanoo's cries that shook heaven and earth.

It was unleashed from an absolutely inviolable domain located even deeper within Takamagahara, at the very apex of the gods.

"—Silence, you fool!! Enough of this wailing!!"

A furious voice filled with absolute majesty and rage, vibrating the atmosphere and instantly calming the sea.

It was the voice of the Creator God, Izanagi, who had lived quietly in retirement and maintained his silence since returning from the Underworld.

This beautiful world he had poured his heart and soul into creating, risking his life and enduring the terror of death.

And to think his own son was ruthlessly destroying it for the mere reason of "crying and screaming for love."

It was the moment the "wrath of a god" as the ruler of the world breached its critical point, surpassing any parental pity for a child.

Along with the thunder, the thick clouds of miasma covering the sky split in a circle, as if torn apart by a giant, invisible hand.

From that massive rift in the sky, a blindingly sharp aura pierced the earth like a single, gigantic sword.

Struck by that overwhelming blade of light, the evil gods, who had been rampaging as if they owned the earth, let out an eardrum-shattering shriek—"Gyaaaa!"—and instantly dispersed, crawling back to escape into the depths of the earth.

Susanoo, covered in mud and crying with a scrunched-up face, was also overwhelmed by the terrifying divine aura pouring down from the sky; his giant shoulders flinched, and his cries ceased.

From the rift in the sky, a giant shadow descended slowly, yet draped in an overwhelming aura of anger powerful enough to crush the world.

The direct "judgment" of the supreme god Izanagi was finally about to fall upon the great sinner who had disturbed the world's order, withered nature, and summoned the evil gods.

However, in Susanoo's eyes as he raised his tear-soaked face and glared at the sky, alongside his fear of his father, the even fiercer, hotter fire of "rebellion" still flickered and smoldered.

The time of the definitive rupture between father and son, which would tear the world of the Age of the Gods in two, was fast approaching right before their eyes.
